Print Council of Australia tour of Artlab
At Artlab, we encourage collaboration and exploration through opportunities that include internships, volunteering, training workshops and onsite tours.
Internships
Artlab offers internship opportunities to Australian and international conservation students. Please email us an introductory letter including the conservation specialisation you are interested in, preferred timing and length of internship along with your curriculum vitae (CV). Note places are limited and in high demand.
Volunteering
Artlab has occasional opportunities for volunteering. If you have some experience in conservation or a related area and would like to volunteer your expertise, contact us to find out more.
Training workshops for organisations
We are experienced in delivering a wide variety of ‘collection care’ training workshops, including:
- Cleaning and handling heritage material
- Labelling cultural collections
- Caring for art on paper
- Guidelines for display of cultural material
- Managing the environment
- Storage and display of textiles
- Storage and display of archival materials
- Identifying and managing risks in your museum
- Collections Disaster Management Workshop (including practical hands on salvage session)
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) - what bug is that?
- Housekeeping and cleaning in museums
- Care of photographic collections, storage and display
- Digitisation workshop - care and handling of material.
Our workshops can be flexibly delivered at Artlab or at your chosen site, as a single topic half/full day workshop or as a group of topics tailored to your organisation’s needs over multiple days.
Training sessions can also be carried out through a ‘learning by doing’ approach for activities such as making archival enclosures, cleaning museum objects and spaces or packing and relocating collection material. A real time learning experience delivered through a working bee approach rather than formal presentations is an effective way to update skills and provide refresher training.
Tours
Our tours introduce you to our conservators who maintain the state’s collections and preserve family treasures, artworks and heritage items from all over the world.
History Festival Tours
In May each year, we conduct tours for individuals as part of South Australia's History Festival. Bookings are essential and can only be made after the History Festival program is published.
Group Tours
A limited number of tours are offered to groups with a strong connection to conservation and cultural heritage such as art centers, historical societies, libraries, archives, museums, universities and affiliated researchers. Tours can be arranged to support conservation and cultural conferences or events.
